A Message from Their Excellencies,
We extend a warm welcome to all who come to celebrate the nineteenth birthday of our barony. This event, like so many before, will be marked by exciting activities to challenge the skills and prowess of its participants. We hope that not only will you find much entertainment watching the contestants, but also find enjoyment in competing.
Throughout the day's events we hope to find champions from several areas to stand with us and represent the Barony of Marinus over the next year. These champions will come from the Rapier and Heavy Weapons tournaments and the Bardic and Archery competitions.
In order to be considered and selected as one of our champions, you have to consider yourself a member of our barony, and be willing to fulfill the duties of the office which include:
1) Be a leader and advocate for your form.
This includes helping to organize the baronial units at Pennsic and elsewhere, recommending people for baronial & kingdom recognition, and organizing those within your discipline to go to practice and events and do other cool stuff from time to time. And in the case of the fighting arts, you will be expected to take command of our forces if the baron is unable to take the field.
2) Represent your form ceremonially.
When you are present, process in with us and stand behind us durring our courts. You will also be expected to help out with other ceremonial duties at kingdom or society events (opening ceremonies at Pennsic for instance).
3) Represent the barony.
You will be the default representative of the barony when there are competitions that request baronial champions/representatives. If you cannot participate in a particular one you should help the baronage to select a substitute. Wearing your champion's tabard/favor and making Marinus look good in big tournaments and competitions also can fall under this subject.
We have been pleased with the help and support that we have received from our baronial champions over the years. They have represented the barony well!
Again, welcome to our nineteenth birthday celebration.
Thank you,
Otto and Margret
